So I just wanted to share a few photos from a project I’ve been working on this year, a long-term study of local food in Vermont. Since moving here in 2008, I’ve come to realize that we have it pretty good here in the Green Mountain State. We have a great variety and abundance of skilled farmers, and an excellent system in place for getting their food from the field to our tables. I intend to show the various food networks we have in place here, and eventually produce a piece that gets to the heart of Vermont’s local food culture. Many thanks to Open Heart Farm and Jericho Settlers for letting me hang out and photograph them at work! These particular images are from an early morning visit to Jericho Settlers yesterday, and I was so excited that I just had to share them.
EDIT: On a side note, Jericho Settlers and Open Heart both lost crops and livestock to Irene. This has been a difficult year for farmers and I wish them the very best in their recovery. Support them by buying local food! Coincidentally it is Eat Local Week October 1-9.
