Photo of the Day: BTV 50 – Kat Wright

Happy New Year everyone!!

Looking back, I can honestly say 2012 was an incredible year. After wrapping up a crazy busy fall with tons of assignments, weddings and commercial work, my partner Judd and I took off for a whirlwind trip through Australia and New Zealand (images to come!), getting back just in time for the holidays. We rang in the new year with Phish at Madison Square Garden and are finally back in Burlington – and ready to tackle 2013!

I wanted to share a portrait I made in the fall of the lovely Kat Wright (of Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul Band) for my BTV50 project. I actually know Kat from my hometown of Rochester and randomly ran into her at Radio Bean a few years back. She’s been making headlines with her band, where she leads on vocals – they opened for Rubblebucket during a NYE run at Higher Ground and have been putting on some amazing shows in the area. Follow them on Facebook and check out this sweet music video our studiomate Matt Day recently made for them – these guys are going places!

News and Travel Dates

First, apologies for being so woefully absent from my own blog. After an unexpected string of editorial assignments and commercial work earlier this fall, and several weeks of marathon editing at the tail end of Vermont wedding season, I jumped on a plane and headed to Melbourne, Australia, where I’ll be visiting with friends and shooting this year’s final wedding. Also on the itinerary is a trip to the rugged mountains of Tasmania (Nov. 18-22), and then to wrap it all up, two weeks in New Zealand (Nov. 26-Dec. 10), where I’ll be picking up my farming story – with a Kiwi twist. Keep an eye out for occasional updates from overseas!

After Christmas, my partner and I will be embarking on our first direct mail campaigns to a select group of photo editors and art buyers, which should be an adventure in and of itself. I’ve got some beautiful portraits that I’ve been itching to share when I find a few moments to edit personal work. I’m looking forward to encountering the unexpected and doing some much-needed visual exploration in the coming weeks – Cheers!

Published: The Boston Globe Magazine

This was literally a dream assignment: go around photographing my favorite breweries and beer establishments while getting paid to do it. Over the course of two days I shot portraits, details and environmentals of Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Prohibition Pig and various others. It was really nice to return to Waterbury and see things going well: they have come so far since Hurricane Irene hit and hopefully the article will provide a much needed boost to the town.

BIG shout-out to Judd Lamphere for lighting assist and for shooting a couple of the exterior restaurant shots to help get everything done on time. The Boston Globe published a nice spread in yesterday’s fall travel issue of Globe Magazine – check it out online as well!

Photos of the Day: Mud Volleyball

I’ve had a crazy busy few weeks – lots of shooting – but wanted to share a couple favorites from an assignment for The Essex Reporter last weekend. Full of sunshine, frogs and of course mud, I had a great time hanging out with these guys and getting action shots. This would be my second ‘sports’ assignment ever, the first being a memorable Quidditch tournament at Middlebury College.

New BTV 50 portraits and farm story work to be posted in the coming weeks… Cheers!

Photo of the Day: Star Dairy

During my visit to the Northeast Kingdom a couple months ago, I went to meet Ivy Pagliari of Star Dairy, and her cows. Ivy, who recently started her micro dairy based in Hardwick, sells raw milk and was gracious enough to host me for a visit and some photos. Find out details about her micro dairy farm here, and I’ve updated my farm to table section with some new images as well. Happy Fourth everyone!
